Volleyball triumphs in the USA – despite travel disruptions

The Turkish women's national volleyball team, known as “Filenin Sultanları”, recently returned from the USA after a successful series of matches in the Volleyball Nations League. Despite the controversial overseas flight in economy class, they showed outstanding performance and achieved many victories.

Türkiye began its journey to the United States of America under difficult circumstances. The 13-hour flight in economy class caused public dissatisfaction and debate. Despite this, the team showed great fighting spirit and dominated the second week of the European Volleyball Nations League.

Filenin Sultanları's team won all four matches held in the USA. They defeated Germany and Serbia 3-1 and South Korea 3-0. The highlight of the week was the hard-fought win over the USA, where they prevailed 3-2 after more than two hours of play. Melissa Vargas was the most prominent player in the match with 27 points.

Back in business class

With these victories, the Turkish national team impressively defended its position at the top of the league. The next Nations League volleyball matches will be held from June 12 to 16 in Hong Kong, where Turkey will face Thailand, the Dominican Republic, China and Brazil.

The escape abroad in economy class sparked significant criticism, both from the players themselves and from the public. Both Turkish Airlines (THY) and the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) issued statements explaining responsibility. While Turkish Airlines confirmed that flight planning had been coordinated in advance with Etihad, Turkey's sovereign wealth fund clarified that there was no possibility of cabin upgrade.

Volleyball: Türkiye defeats Germany despite travel difficulties

After their successes in the USA, the team returned to Istanbul in business class. Upon their arrival, the players stressed the importance of their victories and largely avoided talking about the difficulties of travel.
