Volleyball – Games for Fifth Place: Waldvertler vs. Wiz

Raiffeisen Waldviertel Volleyball Association returned to its winning ways on Saturday. The start of the fifth place play-offs went well against Faiz with a clear 3-0 victory over Styrians. Once again, URW had to give some players a helping hand – outside forwards Kyrylo Klochko and Simon Dräger stayed home due to illness. The players were ready for a tough match, but in the end they won confidently.

The real tension is only in the third set

But the beginning did not go as planned. Northmen twice had to make up from a three-point deficit, but then promptly made it 1-0 with the first ball. The group’s progress led to calm in the North match and this was also reflected in the second set. The second group clearly went to Waldviertel at 25:20, and they were already aiming for victory.

However, in the third division, Weizer rose again. Fayez coach Michael Moorer turned around aggressively and the players introduced new momentum. So it became the most exciting sentence out of the three. The teams missed set pieces and the match, but in the final Nordmann scored the decisive point with a block to 29:27 and thus celebrated a clear victory 3: 0 in Styria.

Already with one leg in the next round

“This win is an important step for us to be able to play fifth place in the men’s AVL,” said head coach Razia Zdenek Smykal. His opponent, Michael Morauer, was naturally less pleased: “We fought, but we made a lot of mistakes. Waldviertel was very strong in the penalty area and we didn’t quite find our game.”

The return leg takes place on Saturday evening at the Zwettler Stadthalle. The winner advances to the next round. Thanks to the 3-0 win, Waldviertel has practically one foot in the second round of matches for fifth place.
