The Voigtlander Ultron has been revised with a 28mm wide-angle focal length, developed and produced by Japanese manufacturer Cosina, to enable a more compact version and less weight.
As with the recently introduced Voigtländer Ultron 2.0 / 35mm (I mentioned internally), 2 different designs with a focal length of 28mm will be available: Type 1 and Type 2. The version of the lighter variants of the first type (image left) is designed in two colors of chrome and matte black and is equipped with a small focus lever, which is what Voigtländer’s statement is primarily intended to attract fans with a very classic look.
Monochrome Type II frames in black or silver (center and right in the photo). It is equipped with a recessed grip, which should allow for faster and more intuitive focusing. The optical structure, focusing mechanisms and aperture are identical. The structure consists of 10 elements in 7 groups, one of which has a semi-spherical surface. The 10 slot blades should ensure a very smooth and attractive bokeh.
According to Voigtländer, the sharpness performance has been improved compared to its predecessor. In addition, an adaptation of the requirements of modern image sensors had to be made.
The new Voigtlander Ultron 28mm / 2.0 at 190g (Type 1) or 230g (Type 2) is always seen as a nice companion when looking for that special moment. The lens is designed for Leica M bayonet cameras, but can also be used on Fujifilm X, Sony E, and Nikon Z cameras with appropriate adapters.
Two lens caps are available as optional accessories, the LH-4N in a round shape and the LH-12 in a rectangular design. The latter allows stray light to be shielded a little better due to the specified depth.
Price and availability
The recommended retail price for all three issues in Switzerland is expected to be CHF 949. Market launch is scheduled for the end of May 2021. The lens cap should be CHF 89 for the LH-4N and CHF 109 for the LH-12.
