The end of the hegemony of the major industrialized countries is expected. Exactly 20 years ago, the former chief economist at US investment bank Goldman Sachs dared make such predictions.

“BRIC” – This catchy acronym from O’Neill should in fact constitute an entire generation of investors and become a barometer for the performance of emerging markets as a whole. Some of his predictions – such as the astonishing rise of China – have already come true. But especially with regard to the development of Russia and Brazil, optimism at that time seems completely exaggerated.
