USA win because coach Berhalter is back

The U.S. national soccer team recorded a clear victory with the eventual return of coach Greg Berhalter. The Americans won 3-0 (1-0) against outsiders Uzbekistan on Saturday (local time) in St. Louis. Tim Weah took the lead in the fourth minute, while Ricardo Pepi and Christian Pulisic added more goals in injury time.

Berhalter’s contract expired after the World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year, and the club rehired the 50-year-old in June after controversy. “The national anthem makes you think a little bit that you’re back. And then it’s back to work, you’re on the sidelines, you’re coaching and trying to help the team win a game,” Berhalter said after the win over foreigners Uzbekistan.

Berhalder reached the round of 16 of the World Cup in 2022. In Qatar he accused Dortmund veteran Giovanni Reina of being careless. His parents accused Berhalter of downplaying an incident in the early 1990s in which he kicked his now-wife Rosalind after an argument. Berhalter acknowledged this and insisted he was sorry for the incident.
