World Championship leader Max Verstappen won the duel against Lewis Hamilton in qualifying for the USA Grand Prix in Austin.

The Dutchman in Red Bull took center stage for the first time in Texas. 24-year-old world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) relegated to second place. Verstappen advances in the world championship standings by 6 points.

His teammate Sergio Perez caused a storm of enthusiasm among the crowd in the third part of the qualifiers while he was in the lead. In the end, the Mexican had to settle for third. Charles Leclerc at Ferrari completes the second row of the grid. Valtteri Bottas (9/Mercedes) is pushed back 5 positions on the grille due to a (extra) change of the combustion engine out of the allowable unit.
