Investigations against Amazon Prime: US authorities invite Bezos to testify

Washington. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and CEO Andy Gacy are to testify as part of an investigation into business practices surrounding streaming service Amazon Prime. This was ordered by the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Authority (FTC) this week.

It rejected an online request by the company to invalidate civil subpoenas presented to former Amazon chief Bezos and his successor, Gacy, in June. The FTC has also set a deadline for the company: By January 20, all data from Bezos, Jassy and 15 other directors who have also been recalled must be submitted.
“Amazon failed to show that the subpoenas were unreasonably burdensome in terms of scope and timing,” said Kristen Wilson, a senior official with the Federal Trade Commission. However, the authority made some changes to the requirements in the subpoenas, which Amazon has criticized as being too far-reaching.

Amazon Prime rules on the test platform
Since March 2021, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been reviewing Amazon Prime enrollment and opt-out rules. The service has an estimated 200 million members worldwide, of which 150 million are in the United States alone. Amazon Prime is a significant source of revenue for the group, and the online giant has endless customer data through the streaming provider.
In the letter protesting the subpoenas of Bezos and Gacy, Amazon said the FTC did not provide a valid reason for the testimony. Interviewers or other documents could have provided the same information. The group also talked about stalking Bezos and Gacy. Gacy moved to the top of Amazon in July 2021, and Bezos – one of the richest people in the world – became chairman of the board.
