AVM, the router manufacturer in Berlin, releases regular updates for Fritz boxes and other Fritz devices. These include, for example, repeaters, transducers, but also Fritz telephones. TECHBOOK contains information about the latest updates.
AVM regularly distributes updates for its devices. The updates bring many innovations to Fritz boxes, repeaters, and powerline adapters. In advance, the company usually prepares so-called in-lab release candidates for an existing major Fritzbox update. New features will also continue to be tested with minor updates from Fritz Lab. A glimpse of current Fritzbox updates
Fritz! OS 7.31 for Fritzbox 7583 VDSL, 7583 and 7530 AX
After a good month having a Fritzbox 7590 AX too Fritz Box 7530 AX Update to Fritz! OS 7.31. After a short time, AVM also provides the update for Fritzbox 7583 with and without VDSL. Moving to the new version number is basically a maintenance update that doesn’t bring any major innovations. With the update, AVM primarily delivers tweaks to support services specific to service providers and improves overall system stability. However, the router manufacturer does not disclose exactly what modifications are included.
The Fritzbox 7590 AX is getting a Fritz! OS 7.31
AVM has provided an update to the Wifi 6 version of the Fritzbox 7590. Fritz is built! OS 7.31 primarily to ensure smoother connections to the Internet. In contrast, the stability of supervisory supervision (35b) and routing (17a) as well as ADSL2+ was increased. In addition, AVM has improved data rates for some remote ADSL2+ sites and interoperability.

Update for cellular fritz boxes
An update is also available for the Fritzbox 6840 LTE. The LTE router receives the Fritz OS! OS 6.87, updated trustworthy root CAs and increased security in WLAN connections. The arteriovenous malformation also made the following modifications:

Innovations in the current FritzOS
With Fritz OS! Current OS, AVM introduces many new functions and improvements for Fritz hardware. This should not only increase the performance of Fritz boxes, but also improve WLAN connections from mobile devices, enable faster and more stable connections over VPNs and ensure more security in the home network. Overall, AVM offers innovations in all core areas such as Internet, telephony, smart home and home network.

Fritz Labour: This should be taken into account
If the update came from Fritz Lab, other conditions apply compared to official updates. As it is using lab firmware, AVM is testing new functions that will later become part of a major and official firmware update at the end of August or beginning of September. So it has a beta character. The manufacturer also indicates that problems can arise when running the program.
Users can try out Fritz Lab if their current FritzOS is installed on their Fritzbox. Before installing the software, however, the data and settings on the router should be backed up to be on the safe side. Once this is done, users can install the Fritz Lab’s lab firmware on AVM site Download and save to your computer as a ZIP file. After decompressing the file, the following steps are necessary for installation:
- Connect to the Fritzbox interface in the browser using http://fritz.box and, if necessary, enter the password for Fritzbox
- At the bottom of the list you will find the “View: Advanced” footer that you need to enable
- You will now find the “FritzOS File” tab under “System/Update”
- In the input field, specify the path to the previously downloaded and decompressed ZIP file and click “Start Update”

If the lab firmware has already been installed on Fritzbox, a new update will be offered automatically. Note that the update process may take a few minutes. Meanwhile, the router’s information lamp is blinking. When the update is complete, Fritzbox will automatically restart. Data and settings are not lost, so the router is ready to use again as usual.
