Former US President Donald Trump, 75, has sued his former opponent, Hillary Clinton, 74, and other Democratic politicians for defamation in connection with the so-called Russia case.
Trump accused Hillary Clinton and “her followers” of “plotting out of sheer malice to spin the false narrative” that Trump was working with Russia in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential election.
Trump makes these allegations
In order to support their “plot,” Clinton and her supporters “falsified evidence, deceived law enforcement agencies” and “exploited their access to highly sensitive databases,” according to the lawsuit. This is so “outrageous, anti-state and incendiary” that the Watergate case appears “pale” by comparison.
In addition to Clinton, who ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, the document also lists Clinton’s campaign manager at the time, John Podesta (73) and former FBI chief James Comey (61), as well as the Democratic campaign law firm Perkins. Coie and Fusion GPS.
Trump wants $72 million in compensation
Trump is calling for a jury trial over his allegations. It also seeks damages of no less than $72 million (about 66.7 million francs).
The so-called Russia affair was the subject of a detailed investigation by then-Special Representative Robert Mueller (77). The question was whether Trump and his campaign team were working with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
The Mueller report cites several meetings between Trump associates and the Russians, but the report fails to reveal evidence of the Trump campaign team’s complicity with Russia. So Trump announced a complete acquittal after the Mueller report was published. (AFP)
