Truck Manufacturer – Daimler Truck Battery Cell Plant Begins Construction in USA – Economy

LINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/BYHALIA (dpa/lsw) – Commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck and its partners have started construction of a battery cell plant in the US state of Mississippi. The company announced a groundbreaking ceremony.

A facility of over 185,000 square metres with an annual production capacity of 21 gigawatt hours is now planned on a 500-hectare site in Byhalia. In mathematical terms, this would be enough for 35,000 electric trucks with a battery capacity of 600 kilowatt hours. A battery of this size is installed in the current model from Daimler Truck, for example.

Production is scheduled to start in 2027.

The plant is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs. Production is scheduled to start in 2027. The plant will initially produce lithium iron phosphate batteries for use in commercial battery-electric vehicles.

The related joint venture, Amplify Cell Technologies, was announced last September. Daimler Truck has partnered with Accelera — a division of US engine maker Cummins — and US truck maker Paccar. Each of the three companies owns 30 percent of the joint venture and controls it together. Chinese battery cell manufacturer EVE Energy is a technology partner with a 10 percent stake in the company.
