German goalkeeper Anne Catherine Berger again suffered from thyroid disease. However, the 31-year-old remains confident and is already considering a return to the pitch.

“I wanted to inform my fans directly that after four years of cancer, unfortunately, a thyroid recurrence has appeared,” the 31-year-old wrote on her club Chelsea’s website in London and on Instagram.

She works closely with the Club Doctor and Specialist in London. “I’m confident my treatment will be just as effective as last time and I look forward to getting back on the pitch and seeing you all at Kingsmeadow and Stamford Bridge,” Berger said. Chelsea Football Club has promised their full support.

She was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in November 2017. After having surgery the following month, she was back on the field in early 2018.

Berger was in the German squad for the European Championships in England in July, but was not used. She was not included in the European Championship runner-up squad for the remaining two World Cup qualifying matches in early September. The German Football Association (DFB) gave special reasons for her absence on Tuesday noon.
