Tim Chiu vs Tony Harrison on March 12 in Sydney, Australia

Tim Tszyu has chosen a dangerous opponent in Tony Harrison, the only one who has managed to defeat Charlo so far!

Australian superstar Tim Chiu and former world champion American Tony Harrison will fight for the vacant WBO interim super welterweight title next Saturday. Tim Chiu will be the absolute star in a very interesting fight, in a guaranteed sold-out arena, with Chiu’s teammates expected to stand behind him like a wall.

The fight is presented by No Limit Boxing Promotions and was previously televised by FOX PPV in Australia.

Chiu’s last fight in his home country was at the same venue where he dominated former champion Takeshi Inoue in his hometown of Sydney in a twelve-round bout for the WBO global title in November 2021.

Tim Tszyu was originally scheduled to face Jermel Charlo, the undisputed world champion from the four major world boxing federations, on January 28, but the fight was called off after the American suffered a broken bone in his left hand before the holiday season. A world championship match against Jermel Charlo is scheduled for January 28 in Las Vegas.

But Chiu didn’t want to wait until Jermell Charlo was fit and healthy again, so he went looking for a suitable high-profile opponent and found Tony Harrison. Harrison didn’t hesitate to accept the fight against Tszyu because, as a former WBC champion, he is eager to get back to the top.

Tim Tszyu has a record of 21-0-0, 15 KOs, while Harrison’s record is an impressive 29-3-1, 21 KOs, suggesting that Harrison is also a good puncher.

Detroit native Tony Harrison is the only loss on Jermell Charlo’s fight record, defeating Charlo by unanimous decision in 12 rounds in his fight for the WBC super welterweight title in December 2018 in Brooklyn, New York.

Tony Harrison should only be a one-way station for Tim Chiu. Coincidentally the son of boxing legend Costa Chiu, the young Australian’s mission is to fight world champion Charlo and collect his titles.

The two were supposed to face each other in a rematch in June 2019, but due to Harrison’s injury, the fight was pushed back to December of the same year. Harrison topped the judges’ scorecards before suffering a heavy knockout in the 11th round that ended his title reign. Since then, Charlo has been the world champion in the super welterweight division since December 19, 2019.

Tszyu made his PBC and US debuts, where he was shocked when he was badly knocked out in the first round of a fight against former US Olympian Terrell Gousha on March 26 last year. However, the Australian survived the fall and went on to win the fight relatively clearly and unanimously.
