It's just before 11pm on the evening of Friday, June 14th. The Landiwiese area on Lake Zurich is becoming more and more crowded, and all the visitors to the Pride Festival are here for one reason only: they want to see Nemo.

The 24-year-old pop star appeared on stage in Switzerland for the first time since winning the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, with the song “The Code.” The concert is also free, so the crowds are quite large.

Thousands of fans are waiting for Bill's singing talent. When the time finally comes and the 24-year-old pop star steps through the fog onto the stage, everyone cheers and their cell phones are pulled out.

As previously announced by the organizers, Nemo did not perform a full concert on the festival stage in Landiwiese. They were able to add performance to the program in the short time after ESC's win. Nimmo sang none other than the ESC-winning song “The Code”, which the pop star will also perform at several festivals this summer.

Fans' expectations were very high beforehand, even though they already knew that only one song would be played.

The mood at the festival grounds late Friday evening was the same: Nemo was greeted by thousands of fans with frenetic cheers, and Belle's singing talent was greeted like a folk hero, a Keystone-SDA reporter at the site reported.

Before Nemo performed “The Code,” the pop star had a few words for the crowd. “We exist! And no matter how many people don't want to acknowledge us, we will always exist. We are here to stay,” Nemo told Pride Festival visitors and raised his fist in the air.

Nemo charmed fans instantly. The pop star gave it his all on stage: not only did he perform a short version of the winning song, but fans enjoyed a nearly ten-minute performance of “The Code.”

After the applause died down and the cheering continued, Nemo said: “It's so nice to be home again.”

New pride area with more space

Before and after Nemo, the new Pride Festival venue in Landiwiese, which offers more space than the previous venue in Kasernenwiese, also rocked: On Friday, Burnie, Dawson and Lainey Bridgett, among others, took the stage. No Name Divas performed at the Schlager Tent.

The Pride Festival continues on Saturday with more concerts. Before that, a large demonstration march will be held in Zurich city center in the afternoon. According to organizers, more than 100 groups have registered, a greater number than ever before. Tens of thousands of participants are again expected.

Zurich Pride will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2024. The slogan this weekend is “Free in all respects – for 30 years”. It is considered the most important LGBTQIA+ event in Switzerland.
