It’s the movie scene of the year! Daniel Craig, 53, has to save the world once again as James Bond in No Time To Die. But this time it will be Craig’s last assignment in Her Majesty’s Secret Service. After five films in 15 years, he quit his job as 007. Craig said in his parting was the “greatest honor” of his life.
“There is always a time to pause. And now is the time.”
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, 61, announced who will take over his legacy in 2022. “It’s very hard to let Daniel Craig go.” He did everything for this character for 15 years.
But the staff carousel is already running at full speed. According to international bookmakers, Tom Hardy (44) and Reggie Jane Page (31) have the best chances of portraying James Bond. But other stars like Idris Elba (49) or Nicholas Hoult (31) also have some. With 33-year-old Lashana Lynch, who has already appeared in the current Bond movie, a first woman named 007 is also being discussed.
When asked who he would like to see as the new Bond himself, Craig replied, “I don’t know! That’s no longer my job. The new guy has to reinvent Bond.”
He himself had great respect for the challenge. “I thought if I accepted the role and failed, my career would be over,” Craig recalls when he received the offer in 2005. “I was afraid that it would change my life. And I did – more than I could have imagined. Fortunately, it was better for the most part.”
These are my favorites from Craig’s successor:
Tom Hardy (44)
The London native often plays the role of anti-heroes in films such as “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Venom” and “Mad Max: Fury Road”. However: “Bond would be great,” enthuses Miss Moneypenny actress Naomi Harris (45) of Hardy, who is the biggest favorite of the new 007.
Idris Elba (49)
Known from the crime series “The Wire” and “Luther,” Idris Elba is often associated with his successor 007. Bond producer Broccoli has repeatedly stated that the upcoming 007 “doesn’t have to be a white man.”
Lashana Lynch (33)
The British woman is hugely popular – especially because she takes on the role of 007 at the end of No Time to Die. “I’m not particularly interested in having a masculine character played by a woman,” Broccoli says of this possibility.
Tom Holland (25)
He actually played a superhero: Holland once flew across the screen as Spider-Man. “As a young British man who loves cinema, I would like to be James Bond,” he says of the rumours. And the jokes: “I look beautiful in a suit.”
Reggie Jean Page (31)
The British-Zimbabwean actor has been in great demand since the hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ and is another favorite of the bookmakers. He cautiously admitted in a TV interview: “If you’re an Englishman and do something familiar, people will start saying the B-word.”
Henry Cavill (38)
With the role of Superman in the Hollywood blockbuster “Man of Steel” and the two subsequent sequels, Henry Cavill became world famous – and is considered a “man of dreams”, especially in his native England. It was already considered a Bond favorite 15 years ago – but that was when Daniel Craig won the bid.
Richard Madden (35)
Scottish fans love him for his extreme physical activity in the fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’. But he can also be serious, showing off the drama Bodyguard that won him a Golden Globe in 2019.
Nicholas Hoult (31)
He is one of the most versatile representatives of Great Britain. Nicholas Hoult is also known to the general public by his action movies like “X-Men”. He loves to play Bond. “I’ve loved movies since I was a kid,” he says enthusiastically.
“Professional music expert. Creator. Student. Twitter aficionado. Unapologetic coffee trailblazer.”
