Bundesliga

Monchengladbach – Leverkusen 2: 3

Goalkeeper Jonas Omlin had to be beaten three times in his Bundesliga debut. Obwaldner lost to Borussia Mönchengladbach at home to Bayer Leverkusen 2:3.

Omelin was unable to prove his skills. He couldn’t do anything with the three targets, besides, he didn’t have much to hold on to. The 29-year-old from central Switzerland spoke to his predecessor and national teammate Jan Sommer before the match. “It was a tough period,” O’Mlin said after the game. “We kept in touch. Yan said I should enjoy it.” Nothing came of it.

Lars Stindl scored the only two goals for Gladbach in the 82nd and 93rd minutes to make the score 1:3 and 2:3. Nico Elvedi played the whole match in the heart of Gladbach’s defence.

“Of course it was a difficult start for him and I felt like the first three shots were there,” Gladbach coach Daniel Farke said. After the final whistle, he went to the middle circle to his still undefeated companions 0: 3.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen is on the right track under coach Xabi Alonso, who was appointed in October, and the victory over Monchengladbach is the fourth in a row.

Dortmund – Augsburg 4: 3

Borussia Dortmund won the first match after the winter break in front of a home crowd with a narrow margin of 4: 3. Dortmund took the lead four times. Augsburg equalized three times.

But Giovanni Reina’s goal in the 78th minute was too much. With the win, BVB gained a few points in the competition for Europe.

Premier League

Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United

Granit Xhaka and Arsenal London remain at the top of the English Premier League table. In a wild game, Mikel Arteta’s side fell behind against Manchester United and had to score the equalizer after a temporary lead, but they won the decisive goal of Eddie Nketiah in the 90th minute.

United’s ten-game unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end.

Manchester City 3-0 Wolverhampton

Norway’s top scorer Erling Haaland enabled Manchester City – Manuel Akanji to play the whole game in central defence – and scored his 23 to 25 goals this season to get him an afternoon rest.

With this win, Manchester City remains close to leaders Arsenal.

Series A

Juventus 3-3 Atalanta Bergamo

Six goals and no winner at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. In the first match, after deducting 15 points, Juventus and Atalanta separate 3: 3.

Lookman gave the visitors an early lead, but Di Maria and Milek turned the game around before the break. Goals from Mahle and Luckmann, meanwhile, put Atalanta back in front, but a Juves Danilo goal after 65 minutes sealed the final score 3–3. Bergamasques are still in the Champions League places, and Juventus are only ninth due to points deduction.

Barcelona remains at the top of the First Division. One goal is enough to beat Getafe, scored by young Pedri in the 35th minute.

Bilbao 0-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid never misses a defeat in Athletic Bilbao and wins 2-0. The difference with leaders Barcelona is still only three points.
