German Cycling Prize 2022: The cycling district in the Nauwieser district of Saarbrücken takes third place
Saarbrucken The cycling district Nauwieser Viertel in Saarbrücken competed for the 2022 German Bike Prize. The decision has now been made.
The Nauwieser Viertel cycling district in Saarbrücken took third place in the “infrastructure” category at the 2022 German Bicycle Prize. The city received a prize money of 1,500 euros.
The jury praised the very extensive bike network in the Nauwieser district with eleven streets and an area of 25 hectares. In its justification, the jury also referred to the central populated area with a population of about 6000. One of Germany’s first cycling districts was established in the famous Saarbrücken district. It has been open since May 2021.
Promoting bicycle traffic in such a central location brings many advantages to people in the area and the entire city, Lord Mayor of Saarbrücken Uwe Konradt (CDU) told SZ last year. Economy Minister Anke Rellinger (SPD) also praised the project at the time. The cost of the project in the region is about 150 thousand euros. The Ministry of Economic Affairs contributed 50,000 euros.
