Perhaps the biggest surprise on the summer Edelweiss cruise schedule is Akureyri in Iceland.
Outside it’s snowing all the way down to the lowlands and it’s very cold – so nothing really reminiscent of summer. But spring is definitely coming, and just thinking about vacations and the beach can help you get through the cold season. Edelweiss and Swiss have published their travel plans for the summer of 2023. So you can at least plan your next vacation in the heat.
Blick shows which destinations will be added and where international flight connections will be created or eliminated in the summer of 2023.
Three new destinations
Akureyri (Iceland), Biarritz (F) and Bari (I) – These are the three new destinations on the Edelweiss summer schedule. Akureyri in particular stands out. The little-known city is located in the north of Iceland. It is now offered as an alternative route to the capital, Reykjavík. Iceland’s popularity with its scenic nature and volcanoes increases in the summer.
With Biarritz and Bari, two new mainland European destinations have been added to the flight plan. Biarritz is a mecca on the French Atlantic coast, and with Bari, southern Italy will be further developed in the summer of 2023. In addition, destinations previously only offered in winter will now be offered in summer. For example Cape Verde and Jordan.
More flights will also be offered to popular destinations Greece, the Canary Islands and Cyprus in the summer of 2023. Links will also be expanded with Scotland and North Africa, in particular with Morocco and Tunisia. Overall, Edelweiss will offer short-haul flights to 63 destinations in 21 countries next summer. These are 19 more short-term destinations compared to summer 2019.
Long distance travel back
Popular destinations USA, Costa Rica and the Caribbean are frequently served. The Caribbean is also served by direct flights from Zurich during major holiday periods. Flights to Denver (USA) and Vancouver (Canada) will depart frequently in the summer. In total, Edelweiss offers long-haul flights to 21 destinations in 15 countries.
“Dolce Vita” and city trips
A few weeks ago, Switzerland announced its summer tour schedule. It is focused on Italy in the short distance segment. A total of 161 times a week it is served to the destinations of Rome, Bologna, Brindisi, Florence, Milan, Naples, Palermo and Venice.
The city of Bristol in the south of England will already be included in the plans for Switzerland this winter. Now also served in the summer, Bristol attracts pubs and culture. In addition, connections to Copenhagen will be expanded. Copenhagen is the city with the highest quality of life in the world and offers plenty of food and culture.
Destinations in the Baltics were already very popular in 2022. Next summer, Switzerland will again offer regular flights to Tallinn and Vilnius. The Lufthansa subsidiary will not change anything in terms of destinations on long-haul routes next summer.
