Year Abroad in Sydney
Full Story: Judo ace Schneider is currently on a year abroad in Sydney. “Even in the land of the koalas, Piet didn’t want to give up his beloved judo practice and looked for opportunities in Sydney,” reports Karin Fischer, press officer for the judo division. Schneider invented Sambo for himself. A martial art that originated in Japan.

“It’s a combination of judo and jiu-jitsu. There are elements of wrestling techniques as well,” explains Fischer. “After Pete tried it he was able to compete in a match a few days later.” Because of his judo experience, he accepted the challenge and embarked on an adventure. With success! Australia’s Sambo Schneider took first place in his weight class at the Federation Cup.
