A new office building is being built near Cologne Main Station. The current layout shows the following: Breslauer Platz would be difficult to recognize.
Cologne – Due to all the construction and large-scale projects in Cologne, you can sometimes lose things in the cathedral city – and there are currently a number of construction projects in Cologne city centre. Now something new has been added: as announced by the project developer Pandion, the winning design has now been selected for a new office building directly at Cologne Central Station – with up to 600 workplaces, a total floor area of 11,000 square meters and a direct view of the Cologne Cathedral. “The property is the current location of the Raiffeisen Waren-Zentrale (RWZ) office on Altenberger Straße 1a,” explains Bandion.
Cologne Main Station: The new office aims to upgrade the northern station area
Title | Altenberger Straße 1a (former commodities headquarters in Raiffeisen) |
measuring | 11,000 square meters of total area |
Uses | Office (about 600 workstations planned) |
Project developer | Pandion |
Completion (planned) | 2028 |
The office project is called “Officehome” and is intended to enhance the North Station area, developers say. This will likely lead to radical changes in Breslauer Square for the residents of Cologne. With mainly homeless people currently loitering, the new ultra-modern building will be built in the immediate vicinity of the neighboring Kunibertsviertel. “The design shows in the best sense how a good part of the city in a central location can be upgraded in terms of urban development and architecture,” says Head of Construction Markus Greitmann from the City of Cologne.
New office at Cologne Central Station: This will transform Breslauer Square
The building design by Astoc Architects and Planners was unanimously selected by a jury made up of architects, urban planners and representatives of the city of Cologne on 2 November. This is also due to the fact that Pandion is pursuing a sustainability concept for the new building directly at the main train station in Cologne’s city centre. “The construction of the façade, the energy concept and the extensive use of surface space allow us to expect the highest standards in terms of sustainability for future working environments,” say the developers.
Major projects in Cologne: The new office building on Breslauer Platz is scheduled for completion in 2028
While a number of major projects in Cologne, such as Parkstadt Süd (planned for completion in 2037) or Deutzer Hafen (2031), will take a few more years, construction of the new office building at the relatively main train station is expected. Quickly: It is currently scheduled for completion in 2028. This means that the new major project should be completed in the same year as the KVB north-south light rail project in Cologne – at the earliest.
