According to Statistics Austria, Marie and Jacob topped the list of newborn first names in 2020. This is shown by evaluating the first names (in the original spelling, without special characters) for all 40,669 girls and 42,934 boys born this year. For girls, parents chose the name Marie 734 times (1.8 percent) and for boys 794 times (1.8 percent) the name Jacob, the Austrian Statistics Authority said in a broadcast on Monday. In 2019 Emma and Maximilian won. “Marie is the top climber among the most popular baby names for 2020. Compared to the previous year, she moved up three places and took the number one spot. Jacob, a new name for boys, also took the lead. It was next,” said Tobias Thomas, General Manager of Statistics Austria.
