Berlin. Starting January 1, 2023, there will be private funding from the federal government for so-called “civilian energy companies.” This is due to a new guideline from the Federal Ministry for Economics, about the newspapers in the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” report which will come into effect at the turn of the year.
The aim of the program is to mitigate the high costs of the planning and approval phase of wind turbines manufactured by the “Civil Power Companies”. The Ministry subsidizes these costs by 70 percent to a maximum of €200,000 per project. Total funding for 2023 is around 7.5 million euros. Comparable amounts are planned for the following years.
“Civil energy companies” are companies in which citizens act as owners of factories, mainly for the production of renewable energies. The Federal Office for Economics and Export Control is responsible for the operation of the programme. Citizen energy is an important measure to promote acceptance of the energy transition, according to Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens). Because the energy transition with the necessary expansion of renewable energies is a huge undertaking that requires the support of society as a whole.
