From Monday 15 November 2021, Swiss Post will be providing some services at the Orell Füssli Library. The old post office is being renovated and given new uses. As the property’s owner, AXA Investments “will undertake a large-scale renovation of the building,” according to an earlier statement from the Swiss Post. Architects at Basel-Herzog & de Meuron were commissioned to redesign the main post office building. The appearance of the listed building from 1878/80 should not change significantly.
According to the Swiss Post, the building will be renovated from mid-2022 onwards. “In this way, both mailboxes and a commercial customer point, as well as letter mail and Postomat will remain in Rüdengasse until then.”
Swiss Post’s strategy is based on cooperation with partner branches. From Monday, staff at the Orell Füssli Library on Freie Strasse will serve Post customers. “The offer includes daily postal chores such as sending letters and parcels in Switzerland and abroad and making payments with popular debit cards,” the letter wrote. However, deposits can no longer be made in cash.
