The Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof branch on Limbecker Platz will likely close

The branch of the department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof in Limbecker Platz appears to be about to close. It is said to be one of 16 locations that will close as a result of the bankruptcy.

Department store group Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof wants to close 16 of its 92 locations across Germany. The reason for this is extensive cost-cutting measures. The branch in the Limbecker Platz shopping center in Essen is also said to have been affected, Bild newspaper reported on Saturday. However, official confirmation from the group is still pending.

It had already become known when new investors took over after the bankruptcy that a number of the homes would no longer be operated. After the third bankruptcy in four years, American Richard Becker and German Bernd Betz took over management of the chain a few weeks ago.

The company's headquarters were also affected by job cuts

According to the company, 11,400 employees will keep their jobs. It was said that 1,400 people must leave. More recently, insolvency administrator Stefan Dinkhaus has already announced that half of the 900 jobs at the company's headquarters in Essen will be cut.
