Despite not having a single player, FC Winterthur managed to save a point across the finish line in the first match against Schaffhausen. The fight for a live upgrade is still more exciting than ever.

Against the majestic backdrop of 9000 spectators, the guests found the game better on Schützenwiese. It can cheer up early. After an insufficiently clear corner kick, Augustin Gonzalez grabbed a shot from the edge of the penalty area and did not give Rafael Spiegel a chance to defend himself in the FCW goal. The home team took a minute to absorb the setback. Granit Lecage and Romain Boyce missed the most promising chance to equalize before the end of the first half.

Basel striker Alex Frey was able to celebrate after a good hour. Buess confidently converted a controversial penalty foul against Francesco Roberto. Eventually after this controversial scene, sentiment ran into, nine minutes before Michael Gonsalves was sent off Winterthur after a second warning. Martin Andermatt’s team was unable to use the manpower to score a late winner that would have propelled them to the top of the table.

With four laps left before the end of the season, Winterthur remains one point ahead of Schaffhausen. The beneficiary of the points division is the third greedy for promotion. Arau closes the gap against FCS with a 3-0 win over Neuchâtel Zamax.
