Alfa-Sauber had to wait more than three hours before being happy with their first two World Cup points in 2021. FIA Kimi Raikkonen (41) found guilty: 30 seconds from the penalty kick.
Usually, the Finn would have received the stop-and-go penalty (10 seconds) for his offense before restarting. Ultimately, however, this is extrapolated to 30 seconds. Raikkonen was banned from joining the field again after a spin on the formation lap before the restart.
The “Snowman” thus loses ninth place – and is surpassed by Okun, Alonso, Perez and Tsunoda penalties on the computer time.
So only thirteenth place was left – right in front of team-mate Giovinazzi. Suddenly he had to go digging to remove anything that had been smuggled into the brake ventilation.
Both Alfa-Sauber are on their way to the top ten
Prior to this, both C41s from Hinwil were on a clear point path. The rain and Williams-Mercedes failures helped them achieve that from the meager starting position 16 and 17. It took just a few seconds for Latife to leave (he hit Mazpin) and in the first half Russell (crashed with Bottas) said goodbye to the points.

For Alfa-Sauber, this is a huge disappointment in the second race. Last year there was the best result of the season in Imola with Kimi finishing ninth and Giovinazzi in 10th. You are now back in eighth place in the World Cup and will be in position ahead of Portugal on May 2nd. Chef Vaser must now give his team new courage.
Team captain Vasor: “We showed that our car can drive to the points on Sunday. Technical problems and the penalty against Kimi took our cars out of the top ten unfortunately. The race gives us confidence, although we saw once again just how small the differences in midfield are.”
Raikkonen (13th): “After 16th on Saturday, it was definitely an improvement today. Conditions were difficult because it never dried out. Things go well for the mediators. Unfortunately, due to the penalty, we have no pay to display on our performance. But at least we competed for points in both previous races. “
Giovinazzi (14th): “We had a great race, even the technical problem. Kimmy and I had a chance to finish in the top ten. Unfortunately, after that I had to stop with the brakes. “
