Tennis stars suspected of manipulation
Aslan Karazu (40 ATP player), the former number 14 in the world, is suspected of manipulation. His girlfriend has already been banned for life. A Georgian tennis star is also suspected.
Is tennis threatened by fraud scandal?
Two of the top 50 players and coaches are suspected of involvement in match-fixing. As reported by ZDF on Sunday, these are Russia’s Aslan Karazio (ATP 40), Georgia’s Nikolos Basilashvili (ATP 25) and Belarusian coach Yahor Yatsik. This was confirmed anonymously to German TV II by an Eastern European coach.

Accordingly, there must be five concrete suspected cases out of the three. A recent event at the ATP Tour in Stuttgart at the beginning of June, when Carazio’s first-round exit in the doubles saw significant risks to Russia’s defeat. This was the case with Basilashvili at Wimbledon 2021. There they talk about stakes of $500,000.
The ITF has declined to comment so far. Remarkably: the girlfriend of Carazio, who once beat Novak Djokovic on the tour, has already been banned from tennis for life. Is the Russian now facing the same fate? (mo)
