Professional tennis player Dominic Kupfer was eliminated in the first round of the Masters Tournament in Miami. The 27-year-old lost from Fortwangen 7:6 (10:8), 4:6, 4:6 against MacKenzie McDonald of the United States.

Of the five Germans in the main draw, Kupffer was the first to be eliminated. Oscar Otti meets American qualifier Mitchell Krueger, Jan-Lennard Struff plays Pedro Martinez of Spain and Daniel Altmaier plays JJ Wolf of the USA. Farewell Olympic champion second seed Alexander Zverev in the first round.

Florida’s Laura Sigmund was also eliminated in the first round. The 34-year-old from Felderstadt lost 6-1 6-2 to Czech Marie Pozkova. The day before, Nastasja Schunk lost 6:4, 3:6, 1:6 to Kazakh Julia Potenziwa.
So Angelique Kerber is the only German who still participates in the Miami Open, which was awarded around US$8.6 million. After a goodbye in the first round of the hard-court championship, the German number one meets former world number one Naomi Osaka. The Japanese defeated New Zealander Astra Sharma 6-3 6-4.
