Julia Graber reached a new milestone in her career at the dress rehearsal for the French Open in Paris. The 26-year-old from Vorarlberg reached the semi-finals of the tournament in Rabat on Thursday and is among the top four on the WTA Tour for the first time. Graber capitalized on the resignation of the Italian top seed against Martina Trevisan after winning the first set 6:3.

After Grabher turned the first set after an early service loss to make it 1:2 with two breaks and used a second set ball after 37 minutes, Trevisan threw in the towel. The Italian, ranked 26th in the world, helped her Austrian opponent find her place in the WTA computer at number 74, making her semi-final debut.

“Of course it’s a pity that we couldn’t finish the match, but the performance has been good so far, which gives me more self-confidence,” Graber happily said in a Facebook post. “It puts me in the top 4 for the first time on the WTA Tour, I’m really happy about that and I’m really excited for tomorrow. Anything is possible!”

In the first four round of the WTA 250 tournament in the Moroccan capital, Graber, who was in the quarter-finals for the first time since April 2022, meets the winners Julia Potenziwa of Kazakhstan and Julia Riera of Argentina. The second semi-final was played by Alicia Parks (USA) and Lucia Bronzetti (Italy), as well as compatriots Sloane Stephens and Peyton Stearns.

Grabher earned 110 WTA points and total prize money of $11,275 with her first semifinal entry. In the direct rankings of the world rankings, number one Austria has improved to 66th and will certainly improve on its best position to date. A few days before the start of the French Open, the Vorarlberg native was in great shape. This will be Grabher’s main-draw debut at Roland Garros.
