Suzuki Hayabusa is the fastest snowmobile in the world

The awesome guys from Grind Hard Plumbing Co. out of Idaho, USA have built a lot of crazy stuff with motors of all kinds, from 2 to 6 wheelers. or with caterpillar engine. Because snow is not uncommon in the northern hills of Idaho.

From a motorcycle to a snowmobile

The obvious basis for turning a motorcycle into a snowmobile is a light, sturdy Enduro with long-travel suspension. This is done relatively often, and now there are special conversion kits. Polaris kits are the first choice in winter sports. Polaris is very familiar to snowmobiles, and is a core specialty of the American manufacturer. In addition, the Indian brand of motorcycles belongs to the Polaris family. And in 2010 Polaris created its own division of snowmobile motorcycle groups: Timbersled.

Polaris Timbersled Kits

Polaris now offers different versions of Timbersled Klits. The differences relate to the components used, suspension and damping as well as the dimensions of the sled in front and the caterpillar engine in the rear. But all Timbersled kits were developed for convertible, light sport enduros and prepared accordingly. For larger, heavier, and more powerful motorcycles, there aren’t – yet – Timbersled kits. Especially for quads that are twice as heavy and four times as powerful as a single-cylinder enduro.

cracked riot 3

In order to convert the Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa into a snowmobile, a team of hobby mechanics called Grind Hard Plumbing Co thought a Timbersled Riot 3 would be the best fit. The Caterpillar engine in the aluminum frame is equipped with an adaptive final drive (QDT) for mounting on the swing arm axle and gearbox output, with integrated brakes and two fox struts. Caterpillar engine weight: about 55 kg. Instead of the front wheel, a telescopic fork is installed in front of the sled, which weighs about 7 kilograms. The Timbersled Riot 3 Parts Kit is available from $7,099 (equivalent to approximately €6,500 as of January 2023).

Suzuki Hayabusa as a snowmobile

“We made the world’s fastest snowmobile!” The guys from Grind Hard Plumbing Co announced January 2023 and they are brimming with pride. Within a week, they installed a Timbersled kit on a 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa, which required extensive modifications to both the bike and kit parts. With around 200 hp and 140 Nm of torque in a mildly tuned 1300 four-cylinder snowmobile Hayabusa, the “Grinder Boys” want to set the speed record in the snowmobile category. 300 km / h, which is possible with every original Hayabusa on asphalt, they probably won’t quite reach it on snow. Practice is fun for them, as can be seen in the video.

conclusion

Possibly the world’s fastest motorcycle converted into a snowmobile comes from Idaho, located in the northwest of the United States of America. The Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa, one of the fastest motorcycles in the world, with light tuning and around 200 hp, was selected as the basis for the conversion.
