Managing Director Jimmy Berisha, 39, who has brought firefighter Zoltan Kadar in his last two Challenge League games, has been battling for a Swiss solution in the past few days. At the end of the day, Maurizio Jacopaci (58, formerly Lugano), Bruno Berner (43, SC Crienz) and Giorgio Contini vie for the local football coaches.
The 47-year-old from Winterthur, who moved up with Lausanne and managed to keep Vaudois in the league without any issues, will not receive a new contract from Lausanne owner Ineos for the new season, so he is free. GC Adventure.
Contini quoted the following in GC’s media statement on Wednesday morning: “I would like to sincerely thank the Chairman and all concerned, Mr. Berisha and of course our Technical Director Mr. Olofinjana. The anticipation is great and I know I can be part of a very exciting project. We as a team, with honest and hard work, have to quickly convince all of our many fans that it is worth investing attention, time and effort in us. I accept this challenge and hope to gain great support from the GC community.”
Contini appears to be winning the indoor race thanks to his experience and can finally impress Chinese GC boss Sky Sun. Initially, Sun favored the Portuguese solution (like last season with the failed Joao Pereira).
Part of Syd St. Gallen’s team
As a player, Contini played 145 matches for FC St. Gallen, and in 2000 he also became part of the FCSG Championship team. The striker also made an international cap for Switzerland in 2001. One thing to forget: 0:4 against Poland.
The man with the initials GC works as a coach in Lucerne (co-coach), Vaduz, St. Gallen and Lausanne.
Contini has been married to her horse lover Andrea since 2005, and they are the proud parents of their daughters Alicia (13) and Leona (10). In his meager spare time, the new GC trainer accompanies his wife to meet or go for a walk with the dachshund.
