Donald Trump refuses to testify about the Capitol storm.
Lawyers for Donald Trump (76) filed a lawsuit in Florida state court Friday night (local time) to challenge the commission’s subpoena. In it, they argue, among other things, that the commission does not have the authority to compel Trump to testify.
In addition, the subpoena violates, among other things, the former president’s executive privilege. This is one of the president’s powers to keep some information confidential.
The committee asked Trump to be available for questioning for several days under oath starting Monday. It was a rare escalation. After the summons, Trump initially left open how he would react.
Trump incited his supporters
Trump supporters violently storm the Houses of Parliament in Washington on January 6, 2021. Congress meets there to formally confirm Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
Trump had earlier incited his supporters in a speech to deny him victory due to massive electoral fraud. Five people were killed as a result of the riots. The Committee in the House of Representatives is working on the offensive. (SDA)
