Special anniversary edition of the Mitsubishi Outlander
A special late model celebrating the anniversary of the United States
Mitsubishi Motors has been in business in the USA since 1981. The local importer is releasing an Outlander Edition model for the occasion – albeit two years too late.
Model range in which vehicle manufacturer is active in this country fastest? Those could be from Mitsubishi: With the plug-in hybrid Space Star and Eclipse Cross, the Japanese currently offer only two series in Germany. The new ASX will be introduced to traders in March; Colt will also return to showrooms throughout the year. But these are just slightly modified Renaults visually: The I became Captur ASXthe Cleo to the colt.
Only a few remaining copies of the mighty L200 pickup truck await buyers; Outlander has always been conspicuous by its absence. Unlike Japan and the USA, where a new generation of SUV is available since 2021, which the German Mitsubishi importer would be very happy to include in its own lineup. When it will finally happen (or if it happens at all) is still in question. So we have to look to the other end of the world for Outlander coverage.
after two years
This time in Franklin, Tennessee, where Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is headquartered. The American importer has been officially active in North America since 1981 and is celebrating this anniversary – albeit belatedly – with a special model based on the aforementioned Outlander. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition features an exclusive two-tone paint finish that combines Black Diamond paintwork with a Bronze roof. The rear apron also has a special bottom guard.
Inside are accessories otherwise intended for the higher version with the SEL premium package. This includes the quilted interior door panels, which are made of leather and have a black/brown color combination. Seats up to seven also have leather covers, while the headliner and pillars are wrapped in black. There is also a panoramic electric sunroof, a Bose audio system, a 10.8-inch front screen and special ambient lighting. Many interior and exterior panels refer to the special status of the 40th Anniversary of the Mitsubishi Outlander Special Edition.
As a petrol engine or a compact hybrid
The special model is available in conjunction with the pure combustion model and with the new Outlander PHEV. However, nothing has changed in the drivetrains: The first comes the traditional 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which, paired with a CVT transmission, produces 181 hp. The plug-in hybrid (see video and photos) comes with a 2.4-liter petrol engine rated at 133 hp and two electric motors with a maximum output of 85 kW (116 hp) and 100 kW (136 hp) respectively, of which a continuous output of 40 kW (54 hp) is covered. The special model always has all-wheel drive, although the pure combustion engine is also available with front-wheel drive.
Prices start at $39,995 for the 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mitsubishi Outlander with a petrol engine. The corresponding device costs no less than 49,995 dollars (about 46,000 euros).

conclusion
Scockers might say: It fits the brand that Mitsubishi USA is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the United States two years too late. But be that as it may: With the Outlander, the American importer at least has the base model right, which his classmates in Germany are sure to envy. It should be noted that the changes compared to the standard Outlander remain manageable.
