The lead singer of British band Faithless has died.
Maxi Jazz passed away last night at the age of 65, according to the band on Twitter. The singer fell asleep peacefully.
Jazz and Faithless were a component of the electro music of the 1990s.
Faithless’s biggest hits include “God is a DJ” and “Insomnia”:
“We are saddened that Maxi Jazz passed away peacefully at his home in south London last night,” his bandmates wrote on the group’s official social media accounts on Christmas Eve.
“He gave our music the right meaning and message.” Jazz, whose real name was Maxwell Fraser, was a brilliant lyricist, DJ, moral compass and genius.

The Nonbelievers – and Jazz – became world famous, above all with their song “I Can’t Sleep” and the following techno sample, one of the most formative models in the history of music. Formed in 1995, the band has produced seven studio albums and headlined some of the biggest festivals in the world.
