In the United States, Tesla has to recall more than a million electric cars. The reason is a necessary software update. The US Department of Transportation warns that passengers may pinch their fingers otherwise.
Electric car maker Tesla has to install a software update for nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the United States due to safety concerns. The Federal Highway and Vehicle Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported a malfunction on several Tesla models with automatic window closing. The occupants of the car then run the risk of pinching their fingers.
Tesla cars have a sensor system designed to automatically detect resistance and stop closing windows. The US Department of Transportation has warned on some Model 3, Y, S, and X vehicles, however, resistors are not always reliably detected. Tesla said the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by the malfunction.
Updating the software should fix the problem
The problem should now be fixed with a software update. Affected vehicle owners will be notified starting November 15. Tesla has already had to launch several of these redemptions in the US this year.
For a long time, the company has been running software updates without notifying owners or regulators. However, in recent months, Tesla has become the focus of NHTSA. The supervisory authority has launched an investigation after several collisions between Teslas cars and emergency vehicles.
The recall of the car immediately spoiled the mood of the investors. Shares of the electric car maker fell a good four percent.
