The Swiss are well prepared for the World Cup on Tuesday in Bormio. In the second training session, five Swiss figure skating athletes were among the top 15. Nils Hintermann had the fastest time ahead of Marco Odermatt.
Hintermann was already the fastest Swiss player in Sunday’s first practice session in sixth place. On Monday, he pushed the competition away by 1.53 seconds and more.
Ramp preparation is something to talk about
However, Hinterman credits his time at the finish immediately in comparison to Blake: “Most of them swing more or less on the slope of the end at the beginning.” And about the conditions, he says: “For me it is as far as the slope setting.” “If I could choose, I would have preferred it had it been more aggressive as in the lower section,” Beat Feuz adds.
For Tuesday’s race, this result, which should be handled with caution, is hopeful for many. Two years ago, Hintermann was also sixth on the second slope at Bormio. Is that why he’s the biggest contender for tomorrow’s race? “I don’t feel favourite at all.”
Good team result for Switzerland
Among the Swiss, only Hintermann and Odermatt, who finished 35th on Sunday, improved compared to the day before. With Jill Rollin (10), Pete Fuse (12) and Urs Krähenbühl (15), three other Swiss ski athletes were in the top 15.
It’s a disappointment for Carlo Janca. Obersaxer finished in last practice and won races at Bormio. These would have been the first games this winter for the overall World Cup winner from the 2009-10 season.
At Bormio there will be two more Super-G races on Wednesday and Thursday after Tuesday’s departure. (SDA/nab/mpe)
