The fate of Andrea Ellenberger.
Sad Times by Andrea Ellenberger (29). According to a giant slalom specialist’s Instagram report, her father, Manfred († 66), has passed away.
“Forever Daddy” begins her emotional engagement. “At the moment I have no words to express how much I miss you and how sad I am that I can no longer hold you. But I don’t think he needs more words because you know that you mean the world to me.”
With these words, Ellenberger publishes a series of photos showing her with her father. There it becomes clear how intimate her relationship with him. It does not reveal how he died.
away from sports
Ellenberger and her family need time to absorb this heavy blow of fate. So she allows herself a great distance from sports. “Skiing is my biggest passion and I also know my dad wanted me to keep going,” she explains. “Right now, however, I feel like I’m not ready to focus fully on my skates.”
It’s not a final goodbye. Ellenberger has proven time and time again that she is a fighter. Her career slowed due to several cruciate ligament tears and unbearable back pain brought her close to retirement.
“We’ll be back on the snow soon.”
But she never gave up. She has competed 31 times in the World Cup, and her best result in the Giant Slalom is 11 (Kronplatz 2019 and Sölden 2020). She also won gold at the 2019 World Championships – albeit as a substitute driver.
Whether she will be there at the start of the season in Sölden (22 October) is an open question. “I will definitely be back on the ice soon and will continue to pursue my goals,” Ellenberger wrote at the end of her post. “From now on, you are not alone, but with you in my heart, Dad.” (bear)
