Suddenly Jenny Janka is brutally scared! On January 24, 2019, Carlo’s wife and sister-in-law Fabian continued rehearsing for the infamous “Streif” in Kitzbühel on live webcast. The two haven’t seen any photos of the trips, just the times. And behind the name Carlo Janca, the abbreviation DNF suddenly appeared for “not finished”, which translated from English means that he did not reach the finish line.
“At that moment, I received all the horrible images of a dangerous fall. I was terrified because Carlo was just as badly injured.” Jenny’s “Snowman” actually fell that day, but without injuring himself.
Carlo Janca upon resignation: “It’s the perfect farewell to my favorite race.”(01:49)
“Many beautiful feelings”
And soon his loved ones won’t have to worry about him winding up in a safety fence at full speed in any World Cup race. Jenny Janka’s eyes are still crying as well as a laughing eye before the last start of her heart’s descent. “I had a lot of beautiful feelings with Carlo on the World Cup Tour. After he set a ninth best time in his first practice session at the Lauberhorn on Tuesday, I thought he would still be able to continue his career.”
That’s why Jenny Carlo asked her the all-important question again on Thursday before the press conference: “Do you really want to quit?” As is known, the winner of the 2010 Olympics and the winner of the World Cup implemented his plan without any concessions.
From successes to setbacks: That was Carlo Janca’s great career(01:40)
Account still open
With the Lauberhorn coming down today, it’s finally over. “Carlo still has credit to compromise with that pedigree that he loves so much,” Jenny says. “To this day, he hasn’t fully come to terms with the fact that he made a time-consuming driving mistake here in 2020 after a clear best intermediate time. I wish Carlo the most that he can say goodbye with the top 6.”
In yesterday’s short race, Jänks missed out on fifth by just half a second. The man with eight podium finishes in Wengen once again demonstrated his superb class with the third best time in the class at the ‘Brüggli-S’.
Do it again Carlo!
