Shimano makes the EP801 motor faster

EP801 gets new racing features

With Shimano introducing two new motors just a few days ago, it's time to get the product serviced. Firmware version 4.3.0 The DU-EP801 offers, among other things, a race-specific setting for the powerful engine. This has been developed and tested by Shimano alongside the successful Yeti/Shimano EP Racing team as well as Orbea OOLab and Rotwild Schwalbe Enduro.

The new update aims to make riders more successful and faster. With the new firmware, Shimano sets the boost level to the highest boost mode, achieving an impressive 400 percent boost ratio. This is intended to provide the drivetrain with maximum torque at higher speeds, among other things.

The update also provides customizable maximum speed progression as well as a selectable period of continuous support when pedaling is stopped.

This means that with the new update to the EP801, e-bike riders can decide whether the support should settle down naturally when the speed limit is reached or whether it should be available at maximum until the last moment. On the other hand, if desired, the motor can continue to drive even if pedaling is interrupted, for example. b. During a cross-country road trip on a difficult trail. There are three options to choose from: short, medium and long for the perfect race-specific setup.

EP801 update brings more innovations

Aside from these two most important innovations in extreme areas and use, the 4.3.0 update for the Shimano EP801 also brings with it a few other improvements. In addition to the general bug fixes that are mandatory for almost every update, the Auto Shift function has also been improved.

According to Shimano, shifting is now faster when accelerating. In addition, the timing for each support mode has been optimized. The transmission’s response to automatic free-shifting during aggressive driving has also been improved, and downshifting under hard braking has been improved.

If you want to take advantage of the new update, you can currently only have it installed on your e-bike at a specialist dealer. The E-Tube Project Cyclist app is expected to be updated in the fall. You can then install the new firmware yourself. Future e-bikes with Shimano EP801 will automatically have the new software version.

And it's not just e-bike owners with the EP801 who benefit from innovations through updates. Shimano has also released new firmware versions for some other drivetrains. This is how, for example, the DU-EP600 also benefits from improvements related to Auto Shift and Co.
