The enemy world is in shock. American star Rana Ryder, 51, is being investigated on suspicion of sexual assault. The athletics coach is being targeted by the American Center for Safe Sports, an independent organization investigating allegations of abuse in Olympic sports. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, several questionable incidents involving Ryder are being examined.
The British Federation then instructed athletes Adam Gemley and Daryl Neta to withdraw immediately from Camp Ryder in the United States – or else they would be expelled from the Federation Support Program.
Jason Joseph in trouble
Right in the middle of the circus around Ryder’s world training camp for top athletes like Olympic champion Andre de Grasse in Jacksonville, Florida: Swiss hurdler star Jason Joseph (23). The Basel model arrived two weeks ago, and wanted to train there until Christmas and add another longer block in the new year.
Now the 110m record holder is in a bind: should he wait and see what the investigation brings? Or quit now as a precaution and find a new training environment – but one that doesn’t offer the same high quality terms? Joseph could not be reached for a statement at Blake’s request.
Mujinga Kampunge also trained with Ryder
Three-time Olympic seed Mujinga Kampunge, 29, also trained with Ryder for two weeks in 2018, then worked out according to his plans for several months. “If the allegations are true, it is clear that Mujinga condemns these acts,” her friend and agent Florian Clevas tells Blake.
Ryder, at least, was reportedly at the training ground for the first hours after the allegations became known as if nothing had happened. Through his attorney Ryan Stevens, he said: “The allegations are unexamined and unsubstantiated. SafeSport has not notified Rana of the allegations. The timing and suspected motives for this unproven attack must be fully investigated.”
