The dangerous scene occurred in the first set at 5:5, 15:15. A forward cross is awarded by Zhang Shuai (WTA 45). Although the print on the sand in Budapest proved that the ball had touched the line, the referee decided not to make a correction. Zhang didn’t believe, but after a few minutes of discussion, he continued to play for the time being.

When her opponent, Hungarian Amarisa Toth (WTA 349), erased the opposite ball mark with her foot in the same match, it became too much for Zhang. “Wait, wait, wait! “Leave the sign,” the Chinese shouted. “What are you doing? Why are you doing this?” Zhang received no support from the referee or spectators. Instead, the 34-year-old received whistles from the home crowd.

At the next change of sides, Zhang gave up the game emotionally. The Chinese even shook hands with the referee and her opponent. Then Toth raised her arms to celebrate her victory.
