Exceptions are made for people who can prove that their residence in Ukraine is conducive to returning to their homeland, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs announced on Thursday. Persuasive reasons such as visiting critically ill relatives can also be given.
In addition, a person who, in the opinion of the SEM, moves his life center to a third country loses S status. This can happen if the refugees remain there for more than two months. However, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs states that people with protection status S are generally allowed to travel to Ukraine.
As the Ministry of Refugees wrote, at the request of the cantons, refugees from Ukraine now stay in federal asylum centers (BAZ) seven days longer than before their assignment to the canton.
This is a relief measure, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs said at the request of Keystone News Agency-SDA. “We’re giving the cantons a break.”
It has also been recently established that binational couples do not obtain protected S status if one of them holds the nationality of an EU/EFTA country, Great Britain, Canada, the United States, New Zealand or Australia. Anyone who already has protection status in another Schengen country will also not get S status in Switzerland.
According to the SEM, the adjustments were made after consultation with the cantons and cities. (SDA)
