Bernerin is the strongest in the World Cup time trial
Reusser after World Cup bronze: “It works!”
Marlen Reusser (30) expands her medal collection in major events. It’s not gold, but he can be happy with this bronze medal at the World Championships.

Bronze for Bernese cyclist Marlon Reusser at the Road World Championships in Australia.
It is not gold. Not even silver, as is often the case. Bronze this time! Marlon Reusser (30) raced to third place in the Wollongong World Cup time trial. He lost 34.2 kilometers by 41 seconds to European champion Ellen van Dijk of Holland, who successfully defended her title. Second was local hero Grace Brown from Australia (+29 seconds).
“I’m definitely not in the best shape, so I’m really happy. It’s an ultra-cool time trial,” Reusser said. The past few months have not been easy, he explains. “I didn’t have an organized plan, there were always problems and I had to find compromises.” Background: Reuser injured his wrist in a fall, contracted the coronavirus and recently suffered a concussion. Too many problems – probably too many for a world title.
“Work Pays Off”
Bronze did not disappoint after Reusser’s World Championship silver medals in Imola in 2020 and Flanders in 2021. The street circuit in Sydney’s south in particular is full of countless directional changes and the Hindelbank-to-Bern native, a career changer (he got his first cycling license in 2017), isn’t technically the best. But even in this area she made progress. “The work of the last few years has paid off, I’m driving faster in the corners than before. I’m in a new position there – it’s working!”
Reusser drives an average of 45.427 km/h. As a few times before, a Dutch rider is fast. “I now know the Dutch anthem by heart. We have to change that,” Reusser says with a smile. You can tell she has a lot more planned for the future.
Hartmann’s Fall
The second Swiss, Elena Hartmann (31), is 26 years old in Wollongong. The Grafton native loses 5:01 minutes – and because he fell and had to change his bike.
