Next week, BVV Reinickendorf wants to decide on a new name for the former Antonyplatz.

Berlin. It is a place that has no name. At least not more. On the rock you can still see the spot where his nameplate once hung.

In 2001, the triangular piece of lawn located between the intersection of Dianastraße and Waidmannsluster Damm was named “Place Antony”, meaning “Antonyplatz”. The occasion was the 35th anniversary of the Reinickendorf twinning and the French community south of Paris. This place was chosen because the residence of the French city-commander and the French guesthouse were opposite. Today the point between Dianastraße and Waidmannsluster Damm is unknown.

Because in 2016, the region’s politics decided that the partnership needed a more representative site. So, without further ado, the Wittenau Town Hall’s forecourt became Antoniplatz. On the original Antonyplatz square, the large boulder that came from construction work on the subway line remains.

40 different name suggestions

In recent months, the Waidmannslust Initiative, with its chairman Wolfgang Nieschalk, has called for a name proposal that would do justice to the area or its historical significance. 70 people participated with 40 name suggestions, the five most specific were voted on again.

With a slight difference from “Waidmannluster Eck” and “Waidmannsluster Spitze”, the choice fell to “Diana-Eck” based on the old name “Bolzeneck” and referring to the name of the street and neighboring Dianaplatz (both named after the goddess of the hunt). east of it.

The proposal will be put to a vote in the District Council (BVV) on October 12.

By the way: in the municipality of Anthony, south of Paris next to Orly Airport, there is a “Place de Reinickendorf”: where Avenue du Bois de Verrières and rue François Molé end in a roundabout, there is a little brown fox on the central island and is reminiscent of the partner community of Berlin about 1,000 kilometers away .
