Recall Mercedes: Problems with Distronic

Mercedes is recalling 8,396 cars in various model series in the United States due to problems with non-interference detection.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the automaker Mercedes are recalling 8,396 vehicles in the United States. Mercedes-Benz AG has determined that the non-interference detection feature does not function properly on some vehicles with steering wheel heating. When using Active Distance Assist Distronic, the system may not be able to recognize when the driver takes their hands off the steering wheel.

In this case, there may not be a warning urging the driver to hold the steering wheel as described in the owner’s manual. Additionally, in the event of a driver’s medical emergency (such as loss of consciousness), the vehicle can continue to drive and will not operate the active emergency stop assist as intended. Therefore, the car will not stop and will not make an emergency call. In this case, the paramedics will not be called to the car.
