Racism scandal at FC Barcelona: Video showing how Ousmane Dembele racially insults Asian hotel staff. There is also: Antoine Griezmann.
Barcelona – These are recordings that should never have seen the light of day – at least if it was up to the two video protagonists. At EM 2021, France, the world champions, finished in the round of 16. While the French newspapers were still full of sports criticism in the early days after the tournament ended, a video of two French attacking stars has now surfaced: Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann. Worry about it: Someone expresses himself in the video.
After EM 2021: Racism scandal around Dembele and Griezmann
It appears to be a somewhat older video that is now circulating on the Internet. Dembele and Griezmann are shown filming themselves in a hotel room. What else can be seen in the video: Japanese hotel staff fixing a technical problem on the TV. It seems that both Barcelona stars have spent some time in video games beforehand.
Former BVB player Dembélé frequently pictures hotel staff in their faces. “All those ugly faces so you can play PES. Aren’t you ashamed?”, Dembele says in the video to Griezmann. He laughs heartily in response and obviously finds the sayings funny.
“What kind of backward language is this? Are you technically advanced in your country or not?” Dembele continues simply in French. He holds the camera toward the faces of the technicians from the hotel.
Dembele and Griezmann racist insults to Japanese hotel staff
The video appears to be from summer 2019 and spread via Snapchat. At the time, FC Barcelona was on a PR tour across Japan, playing against Japanese first division club Vissel Kobe, among others. The reason why the video is now appearing in tours is still unclear. Under the hashtag #StopAsianHate, the two French superstars are now receiving a lot of criticism, particularly Dembele’s hateful comments that sparked a racism debate.
Griezmann also has to listen a lot online. The Barcelona forward doesn’t make himself a racist in the video, but his reaction to Dembele’s sayings speaks volumes. So far, neither of them have commented on the video. No statement has been issued by FC Barcelona yet. (n c)
