Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II rescinds the titles of four grandchildren.
The Danish royal family has had a turbulent week: On September 28, Queen Margrethe II (82) announced on Instagram that she would be withdrawing the royal titles of four of her eight grandchildren from January 2023.
Nikolai, 23, Felix (20), Henrik (13) and Athena (10), children of Prince Joachim (53), are affected. Nilokai has already expressed his displeasure in the Danish media.
Now even the youngest daughter of Prince Joachim and his wife Princess Mary (46), Princess Athena, is struggling with the events of the past few days.
Athena is bullied at school
Princess Mary told the Danish newspaper BT: “Athena is being bullied at school. Children come to her and say: ‘She is no longer a princess.'”
“The children are being shown in public,” she says angrily. As parents, you don’t have any time to prepare your children for the change and the resulting reactions from people. Because according to Prince Joachim, the family was informed only five days before the statement was published.
Did Prince Joachim know better?
The royal family denies this statement and explains to Danish media that Prince Joachim was informed of the decision in May.
Lynne Pallippe, the royal family’s head of communications, told Danish media that the prince had been aware of the palace’s decision since early May.
According to the Danish television station TV2, the mood in the family is said to be so tense that Prince Joachim no longer wants to have anything to do with his mother. He hasn’t said a word to her since the decision. (fmu)
