Porsche 911 Dakar revealed
Now 911 comes to the raw stuff
The idea of mixing the Porsche 911 and SUV is not new. But surprisingly, Porsche is reviving the Dakar 911 Rally from 1984 with the current 992nd generation.

Today Blick shows what Porsche will officially announce next week Los Angeles Auto Show Unveiled: New 911. This time one on stilts. The new 911 Dakar is nothing but a revival of the 911 built for the legendary Dakar Rally in 1984 with the interior designation 953 – that is, the country-style modified version of the then Porsche 911G in the typical blue and white Rothmans paint. The biggest difference at that time was not the increase in output to about 300 hp, but the raised chassis with a significantly modified chassis and all-wheel drive, which was later installed as standard on the Porsche 959.
In recent years, images of camouflaged prototypes have appeared Current 911 series With a significant increase in ground clearance and rough off-road tires. Next week on Thursday, the camouflage dress falls at the Los Angeles Auto Show – the people’s favorite fair in Zuffenhausen. The new Porsche 911 Dakar was officially unveiled. Then, the sports car world can decide whether this combination of a Porsche 911 and an off-road vehicle is more modern than ever or simply unnecessary. We think the Dakar 911 can be a hit – if only because it’s probably the most exotic Porsche you can buy as of 2023.
More than 500,000 kilometers tested
During testing, developers working with project general manager Achim Lamparter not only drove the 911 Off-Road through their test sites, but also covered more than 500,000 kilometers around the world under harsh conditions on ice, ice and in the desert. 10,000 km of them alone are on unpaved roads. The structure was set on the test track at the Château de Lastours in southern France. “It was clear to me what the 911 could do on the road. But how well the car performed on gravel was a huge surprise to me.
The Porsche 911 Dakar also had to prove itself on sandy tracks and in high sand dunes. “And he showed great performance there too,” reveals Frank Moser, head of the sports car series at Porsche. “It is precisely there that the 911 Dakar can demonstrate the advantages of its concept. The combination of light weight, increased ground clearance, a powerful rear engine and a short wheelbase ensures plenty of driving pleasure. I was able to convince myself of that during my test drive in the desert.”
Dakar rally instead of Formula 1?
The question is whether the 911 Dakar will only be available to customers to buy as a production car from next year or whether Porsche even wants to get into off-road racing with it as a factory – After the F1 adventure seems to have been postponed for the time being – Nobody wants to answer formally. So let’s be surprised.
