North Korea confirms medium-range missile test

UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Usually these are surface-to-surface missiles that, by design, can also carry a nuclear warhead. North Korea is also developing long-range missiles capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the United States. Pyongyang accuses the United States of hostile policies, which Washington denies. The United States’ negotiations with North Korea over its nuclear weapons program have not progressed in three good years.

The United States and its allies South Korea and Japan on Sunday strongly criticized North Korea’s seventh missile test this year. South Korean President Moon Jae-in accused the neighboring country of wanting to inflame new tensions with its missile tests. According to the South Korean military, the medium-range missile flew 800 km to the east before hitting the Sea of ​​Japan (Korean: East Sea).

According to observers, North Korea wants to demonstrate its power both internally and externally through its missile tests. After the United States recently imposed new sanctions on his country, Governor Kim Jong Un indicated that he would be able to test long-range missiles and nuclear bombs again.
