North Korea conducts a new missile test and threatens the United States

And the North Korean Foreign Ministry has previously accused the United States of “provocation” and threatened a clear response. On Wednesday, the US Treasury decided to impose sanctions on five North Koreans accused of purchasing goods for their country’s programs of mass destruction and missiles. In addition, the United States wants to impose new sanctions on North Korea through the United Nations.

South Korea’s National Security Council has expressed its “deep regret” about North Korea’s continued missile launches. As was the case after the missile tests, the US Indo-Pacific Command accused North Korea of ​​using “illegal weapons programs” to destabilize the region. The command also assumed a new ballistic missile test.

According to South Korea, the missiles were launched in the northwest of the neighboring country on the border with China and flew about 430 kilometers toward the sea in the east. As reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing the military, they were supposed to hit a predetermined target on an uninhabited North Korean island.

North Korea previously conducted a missile test on January 5 and last Tuesday. According to their own statements, hypersonic missiles were tested. With such weapons, a hypersonic gliding missile could be launched from a ballistic missile. Hypersonic weapons are difficult to intercept due to their high speed and maneuverability.

North Korea responded to the new sanctions with initially vague threats. State media quoted a State Department spokesman as saying that, if the United States sought confrontation, it would provide a “stronger and clearer response.” She added that the development of a new type of missile does not target a specific country, but rather works to modernize weapons.

North Korea has declared itself a nuclear power. But in light of the negotiations over its nuclear weapons program, its international status is open. Negotiations with the United States have not progressed for nearly three years.
