  • In the “Music That Made Me” series, the Swiss personalities share their own greatest hits: from their first fan moments to crisis-relieving music.

  • Nidwalder sports shooter Nina Christen (29) shares songs that help her persevere and explains which Swiss band she has joined since childhood.

Nina, do you remember the first album you bought?

Yes, this could very well be a “Bravo Hits” CD – great because you can find so many hits all together on one CD. I remember listening to these CDs over and over on my first system until the next “Bravo Hits” came out. I also remember that every CD showed some scratches very quickly due to the rough handling.

Is there music you associate with your childhood?

Definitely Gotthard. And all the albums already released up to that point.

“One Life, One Soul” was Gotthard’s first top 10 hit in the Swiss Singles Charts in 1996.

Have you been through phases in your life when music was particularly important to you or even shaped your worldview?

How I think about the world has more to do with media, politics and history than with music. I wouldn’t say that music shaped certain stages of my life, but I did prefer different music depending on the stage in my life.

Are there any featured songs?

Nickelback’s “What Are You Waiting For” from 2018 to about 2020 motivated me to pursue my goals without compromise. or “Unstoppable” by Sia. I listened to the song a lot in the two years leading up to my Olympic win and it’s still in the top 10 on Spotify. He encouraged me a lot to make the most out of each day and never give up.

Nina Kristen still feels unstoppable when she hears Sia’s song from 2016.

The Champs’ “Tequila” Because You Don’t Have To Sing So Much. I sing really bad and I hit almost no note.

The 1958 song is now one of the most popular karaoke songs for people who don’t actually sing karaoke — Nina Christen included.
